Final Solution
This was Nazi Germany’s euphemism for the decision to annihilate the Jews of Europe. In a letter dated 31 July 1941, which actually was written by Reinhard Heydrich, Hermann Goering authorized Heydrich to “send me, as soon as possible, a draft setting up details of the preliminary measures taken in organizational, technical, and material needs for the achievement of the ‘final solution’ which we seek.” Heinrich Himmler, who was directly responsible for implementing the Final Solution, invoked Adolf Hitler as the source of his authority for the murder of European Jewry.
