Jewish Combat Organization

Jewish Combat Organization
The ZOB, first under the command of Mordecai Anielewicz and then Marek Edelman, was the force that fought the Nazis during the Warsaw ghetto uprising. The ZOB confronted German troops under the command of Schutzstaffel (SS) General Jurgen Stroop, who sought to seal off the Warsaw ghetto for the purpose of deporting the some 60,000 remaining Jews to the Treblinka death camp on the eve of Passover in April 1943.
